Succulent Buttercream Cake

Preparing The Flower Nail
Place a small drop of icing in the middle of the flower nail, and then place your small square of baking paper on top. This will ensure your work does not move or slide off your flower nail.

Step One
To create the first succulent use the LOYAL piping tip 6B with Magic Colour shade Leaf Green. Begin to pipe 3 small mounds, apply pressure at the base and ease as you pull up. This will create a cone shape.

Step Two
Using LOYAL piping No. 80 with Magic Colour shade Terra Cotta.
Begin by piping a small mound in the centre.
At a 45 degree angle, pipe and pull to create a half cone shape around the mound in the centre.
Pipe from the base upward to cover the mound.

Step Three
Using LOYAL piping No. 16 with Magic Colour shade Olive Oil, pipe a mound in the centre.
Starting at the base pipe and pull upwards on an angle creating the succulent stem. Continue piping all the way to the top of the mound.

Step Four 
Using LOYAL piping tip No. 352 with Magic Colour shade Jade, pipe a mound in the centre.
Begin by piping the leaf at the base of the mound and working your way around and up, building layers of leaves until you reach the top.

Step Five
Using LOYAL piping tip No. 352 with combining Magic Colour shade Garden Green and Castle Grey, pipe a tall cone-shaped mound in the centre. Then continue to use this piping tip and colour to pipe ridges up the side of the mound.

Using LOYAL piping tip No. 106 with Magic Colour shade Aubergine, pipe a drop flower on top.

Using LOYAL piping tip No. 5 with Magic Colour shade White, to pip white dots up the sides of succulents.

 

Step Six
Using LOYAL piping tip No. 150, fill half of one side of the piping bag with Magic Colour shade Chestnut Brown and the other side with Magic Colour shade Leaf Green.
Begin by piping a small mound in the centre, then start piping over and around the base and continue to build layers.

Step Seven
Using LOYAL piping tip 6B with Magic Colour shade Leaf Green, pipe a tall cone-shaped mound in the centre. Then continue to use this piping tip and colour to pipe ridges up the side of the mound.

Using LOYAL piping tip No. 106 with Magic Colour shade Aubergine, pipe a drop flower on top.

Using LOYAL piping tip No. 5 with Magic Colour shade White, to pip white dots up the sides of succulents.

 

Assemble
Using a comb scraper to texture the side of the cake.
Using the coloured icing of your choice, pipe a small mound to help stick the succulent to the cake.
Then using an angled spatula to lift the succulent from the paper and transfer it to the top of the cake.

Pipe additional flowers directly onto the cake to assist with balance and positioning.

Finish
To finish the cake top, use a small star tube and Magic Colour shade Chestnut Brown to pipe around the flower to mimic sand.
